Its always a delight when I get contacted out of the blue by someone who has done a mix or track, and that offering turns out to be exceptional. DJ Pain is one such excellent example, and now I’m pleased to present DJ ZedVantz and his excellent Turntable Jazz mix for your downloading delectation.
Some great videos over at On-Point.be
If you’ve time to spare I recommend heading over to the On-Point website, where they have some excellent interviews and clips with the likes of Flying Lotus, Ben Westbeech, Christian Prommer and my personal highlight, José James. Worth a look – go check it out!
Killer new mix from Kper: Wonk Fonk
Most people know Laurent Fintoni for his excellent work on our other site Turntable Radio. However truth is the guy’s got some heavyweight chops as a DJ in his own right, as proven not so long ago with the mighty Attention Deficit Disorder mix (parts one AND two), and he’s now back once more with another killer mix for your ears. Review: Maga Bo – Confusion of Tongues EP
Being American, I always find it interesting to see how my ears react to different cultures’ take on hip-hop, a genre of music that obviously has origins outside the States, but is wholly an American music phenomenon. That might be a simplistic look at a complicated subject, but I think it has some accuracy. Which brings me to Maga Bo, a producer originally from Seattle but now transplanted to Rio de Janeiro, who takes this American genre and combines it with influences from his new native country, alongside grime, ragga, and other decidedly non-American genres to create an intense and vibrant take on hip-hop.

Karl Hector mix online at SoulStrut
We got the new Karl Hector and the Malcouns LP through just yesterday, and its got to be said that Now Again are seriously stepping up as a label of consistency right now. In short, their LP “Sahara Swing” is gonna be snapping at the heels of the Heliocentrics – an LP I’ve long sung the praises of since I got it last year. Read more
Review: Dam Funk – Burgundy City
I’ll come right out at the top and say that this isn’t normally something I’d listen to, but Stones Throw is such a reputable and reliable record label, it’s worth checking out anything they throw at the unsuspecting public. Dam Funk is possibly their most left-field venture, a decidedly synthetic non-hip-hop related record aimed squarely at two sides of the dancefloor, the laid-back smooth side, and the fast-paced shaking side.
