This month’s show comes literally in the nick of time, with less than 24 hours to go before we hit February. Still the benefit of a slight delay combined with the beginning of the new year is that we have a ridiculous amount of new music to go through this month, and I mean a lot.

One month in, and 2009 is already shaping up to be an interesting year with some really decent full length releases in the first few months of the year, most of which are highlighted in this month’s show. From L.A to Australia, England to Japan the show takes in new tracks from the likes of Exile, Filastine, Harmonic 313, Jneiro Jarel, Sleeper, Ras G, Two Fingers (aka Amont Tobin, Sway and Doublick) and Lukid among others. Most of these guys have got new releases out now or forthcoming in the next few months, so if you like what you hear be sure to check the links and support the artists.

To top all this freshness we also have a mini-feature on a Rhythm Incursions favourite, DJ Signify. His new album, ‘Of Cities,’ is being released on Bully Records this month and to celebrate we’re airing a couple of tracks, including a really tasty Aesop Rock collabo, as well as my favourite track from his previous LP on Lex.

So if all this isn’t enough to convince you to tune in then I’m not quite sure what will. Seriously. Download and tracklist are below as usual. And stay tuned for more guest mixes in February as well as Trick’s first show of the year and more regular shows from our fine roster of presenters.

Touchy Subject – Clever Headache

We continue to roll out the guest mixes this month, with our latest offering coming from Touchy Subject. Now, while his name may not be one you’re familiar with yet it’s quite likely you’ll hear more from him in the coming year as some of his tracks are already being picked up and supported by the likes of Hudson Mohawke and Daedelus.

We hooked up with him after he sent some of the tracks for the show on myspace, and that’s when we decided to ask him to do a guest mix. He dully obliged and delivered with ‘Clever Headache’ a 45 mins ride that takes you through some of his own work alongside newer releases and some Rhythm Incursions favourites, spanning genres and tempo in a fairly effortless manner. Which also fits nicely with how we do things on Rhythm Inc normally, as regulars listeners no doubt know!

Not a man of many words, he described the mix as follows:

There’s some things you just can’t talk about. A variety of sound cheaper than a pound.

You can find out more about the man on his myspaces, here and here. And look out for some more exclusive tracks from him in my forthcoming regular podcast which will be going out before the end of the month.

For now though, strap up and crank the volume.

Cadence Weapon ’shares’ new release with name-your-own-price

No you read that correctly. Ahead of the release of his new album, Big Dada signing Cadence Weapon is releasing an album of remixes and unreleased tracks and taking his cue from Radiohead and others by asking people to name their own price.

I haven’t had time to listen to it yet, but there’s definitely a few interesting ones on there including his remix of Busdriver. If you’re a fan of his previous work then this is definitely something worth checking out, and it’s nice to see more artists, especially less established ones then Radiohead or NIN choosing this route of asking people to pay what they want to for the music. Especially considering this acts essentially as promo for the forthcoming release (which let’s face it ain’t gonna be on the same terms).

From the press release:

The 20 tracks brought together in a 70-minute collection include the Mixmag exclusive Hervé/A-Trak/Cadence Weapon collaboration “Roll With The Winners” and remixes of label-mates The Cansecos and Roots Manuva, and arguably the show-stopper; a remix of The DB Buxton Revue’s “Sex With My Ex”.

DJ Pain – The Odd Side of The Sun

Now this one somehow would have slipped right by us, if it wasn’t for DJ Pain sending me an email on an unrelated note and mentioning that he’d sent a new mix to Trick a while back and hadn’t heard from him yet. Considering Pain is by far one of our favourite DJs, and a de-facto Rhythm-Incursions extended family member following his previous contributions to the show, it soon became clear that somehow, someway the email had fallen foul of a spam filter or something else. Lucky then that we picked up on it because this one is another unmissable mix.

The Odd Side of The Sun is DJ Pain’s tribute of sorts to the producer Odd Nosdam. I’ll let the man explain in a bit more detail:

The mix features all beats by producer Odd Nosdam throughout his career with the Mush and Anticon labels minus the Clouddead output that I didn’t want to focus on for the mix. I went through all of his beats that I had and wanted to do something that stayed close to his original work, yet at the same time throw my own twist on it. There’s almost 40 tracks mixed together in about 51 minutes. The mix is a little A.D.D on steroids, but I think it’s a good point for people to learn and hopefully enjoy Odd Nosdam’s tracks as much as I do… Elektro4 did the artwork.

The result is an instantly listenable and addictive instrumental ride into the work of Odd Nosdam, a great way to enjoy his music if you’re a fan and a perfect introduction if you’re not familiar with his output (which was the case for me as I only knew a few of his beats). The whole thing is wrapped up in the kind of tight package that you’d expect from DJ Pain.

It’s a pleasure to have Pain grace the Rhythm Incursions airwaves once more. So sit back, strap on your headphones or ready your speakers and crank it up to 11. No tracklist on this one, but the mix is 320kpbs goodness.

For more on DJ Pain make sure you check his myspace. And for Odd Nosdam look here.

To help tie the musical hunger over while we get the next round of podcasts ready, head over to the Glitch Mob website where you can download their latest free mix, ‘Crush Mode.’ It’s absolutely tearing, or as the intro says ‘it’s that future shit.’

For those too lazy to click through, download the mix here (right click and save). And then go show some love at one of their many live shows. Glitch Mob album should be incoming sometime this year on Alpha Pup.

DJ ZedVantz – Records I Stole From Rhythm Incursions

Comic - page1

Its a new year and we all need the pickup. Good thing then that ZedVantz is here with just what you need… Fresh from his awesome Turntable Jazz mix that we aired last year, we got an email in our inbox just a couple of days ago with this – a mix we’d describe as “the mother of all pick-me-ups”. Not content with delivering some killer audio though, ZedVantz also enclosed a comic that is, quite frankly, stunning. More of that in a second though…

Flipping from hook to hook like a gazelle, on this mix ZedVantz drops all those riffs you know and love. Now some would think this would mean you listening thinking “heard it…”, but we’re talking about CLASSICS here dammit. At Rhythm Inc Towers that had one effect: we all got smiling and hopping about the place. Sublime, and just the thing to blow away the cobwebs of January and get you screaming “HELLS YEAH – BRING IT ON!!!”

And now the comic. We can’t say enough to big this up, so let’s just show it in full eh?
