Rhythm Incursions – June ’10

Another month, another show and we made it just in time this month despite my best intentions. To be fair I did fracture my wrist two weeks ago which is probably the best excuse I’ve had for a late show (look out for those potholes if you’re cycling around town at night!). Following beautifully from our RIPL and RIRS shows earlier in the month I’m very happy to bring another 2 hours of fresh new music and classics selected especially for you, and with the summer on our doorstep round here this month’s selection is on the slightly sunny side.
There was a lot of music to go through for the show this month, so much I had to leave about 10 odd tracks out. We have new and forthcoming bits from the likes of Mochilla and Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Kode 9, Ramp Recordings, Swede:art, DJ Nate, Mount Kimbie, Terror Danjah, Afta1, Goth Trad, Ichiro_, Africa Hitech, Andrea Triana, Skyence and many more. Alongside all this new music this month’s mini feature takes a look at the legendary Berghain nightclub, one of Berlin’s most well known clubbing institution. It’s not often we cover techno or techno related music on this show but this month I really felt some light needed to be shone on the latest Berghain mix CD which is out now mixed by Ben Klock. Along with it came three singles, a track from each of which we’ve put in our mini feature. This is an ideal way to become acquainted with what’s been happening lately on the techno side of things especially if like me you like some techno stuff you’ve heard but aren’t an avid fan. Those who know may not hear anything new but I’d be willing to bet that most of our listeners are probably not too up on their techno. Hopefully this mini feature helps to show a good selection of what’s out there with a killer track from Martyn which has been a firm favourite of mine for the last month.
As always the show is available to download and stream below and directly via our newsletter, RSS and iTunes feeds (links in the righthand column). Full tracklist below with links to all the websites and where you can buy the music.
That’s it for June, stay tuned for our regular shows in July alongside some tasty guest mixes which we’ll be announcing very soon. Oh and a long overdue site revamp!

Ceschi – The One Man Band Broke Up Megamix by phonatic by Equinox Records
Equinox Records are about to release Ceschi’s debut album, produced by label head Scientist. We’ve already aired a few tracks from this in previous shows but in case you weren’t following Phonatic has put together a megamix of the album which you can stream above and download below.
‘The One Man Band Broke Up’ is one of the freshest rap LPs we’ve heard all year and another great example of why Equinox are a top label you should be familiar with. And that’s not mentioning the killer artwork they put out with each release, this one being no exception.
The album drops June 29th and you can head over to the label’s website to get your pre-order on or check your nearest physical or digital purveyor. Enjoy!

CCC Launch Party Compilation by laurentfintoni
This Saturday, June 19th, the Creative Control Coalition will host a launch party in London featuring 15 London acts on one stage. A new non profit project that aims to represent, connect and support independent creative organisations and individuals for the benefit of all involved, the CCC is is kicking things off with a mini festival that serves as the perfect antidote to those in the capital not going to Sonar. With the likes of Rhythm Inc favourites Om Unit, Jay Scarlett, Dave de Rose, Subeena, Morgan Zarate and more all on the line up, it promises to be a great party and hopefully a worthy start for the project.
Here’s a little more about what the CCC does:
The shared mission of the coalition is to work together and grow stronger in order to keep on loving what we do so that we can keep on doing what we love. Artists and labels who make up the CCC are concerned with creating, promoting and selling their work but have made an informed decision to do this independently of the confines and compromises that relinquishing creative control of their work would inevitably bring.
To celebrate the mini festival and the artists featured the CCC is giving away a mini 8 track compilation with advance tickets. You can stream the compilation above via Soundcloud and we’re giving away a free track from it, Colonel Red‘s ‘Inside Is Light’, with download and stream links below. The track is taken from Red’s forthcoming second album on the Ruff Language label.
Full line up for the event is:
Amalgamation of Soundz (Axed Productions)
Chima Anya (Phoenix)
Colonel Red (Ruff Language)
Dave de Rose (Silent Lash Recordings)
Duchy (Good Noyz)
Grems (Grems Industry)
Jay Scarlett (Ubeat/Beat Dimensions/Ampsoul)
Kay Suzuki (Round in Motion)
Morgan Zarate (Spacek)
Omunit (Allcity/Fabric)
Simon S (Futuristica Music)
Son of Kick (Way Way Records)
Souled (Fresh Minute Music)
Subeena (Opit Records)
United Vibrations (12 Tone)
You can buy tickets for the CCC party here, and at 10 pounds it’s a steal!
Find out more on their website. For now enjoy the music and see you on Saturday as we’ll be down there repping for Rhythm Inc and Original Cultures.

Friends of Friends mix series: Asura – I Am The Homonculus
June 11, 2010 by Laurent
Following from the inaugural mix of our Friends of Friends series last month (here if you missed it) we swiftly follow it up with an exclusive mix from L.A’s Asura, a producer who’s slowly but surely making a name for himself as part of the city’s ever growing, open-minded music scene that encompasses beats, electronic, hip hop, atmospheric and more. Entitled ‘I Am The Homonculus’ it’s a lovely ride through the man’s musical tree as he calls it.
For those new to this series, the FoF mix series features an exclusive mix every month from a close friend of the label complete with an exclusive picture from another close friend of the label. The mixes go out exclusively on Rhythm Incursions and also via FoF’s Soundcloud page (embed below). The picture this month comes from Shaun ‘Sodapop’ Koplow, and has the following story attached to it:
This photo was the result of luck while messing around with my new Panasonic Lumix – GF1. While setting up camp in Joshua Tree for Lazy Brow’s bachelor party, I figured I’d attempt to document things with a few long exposures. I came up with a few shots that seemed exemplary of that night’s bro-motions just fine… this being one of them.
As for the mix, Asura had the following to say about it:
My musical tree spanning the past five years, full of old ones, friends’ ones, and my ones. Los Angeles is represented deep while paying special attention to certain very very important tracks in my development (especially pay attention to “The Big Ship”, “Outdoor Miner”, “I Am A Scientist”, and “Tommib”). Searching for the oppositions of melody/noise, order/chaos, pop/non-pop, and all that good bullshit. Mostly just enjoy, I know I did.
For more on Asura you can check Nonprojects.net and his myspace. Look out for a new split release between the man and Non Project’s Anenon, which should be out later this month via the label and Alpha Pup distribution.
For now though sit back and enjoy this lush musical ride into the influences of one of L.A’s best kept secrets!

[MP3] Kraddy – Luda Sebastian Mash
This freebie from ex-Glitch Mob member and full-time party smasher Kraddy dropped in our inbox this morning, brightening up a rather dull summer day in London. Last seen on Equinox Records where his ‘Android Porn’ anthem got a hefty remix treatment from the likes of Mochipet, Fulgeance, Si Begg and more, Kraddy has apparently been hard at work on a solo album which will see light of day on Alpha Pup later this year and should be a nice addition to the label’s ever expanding roster of forward thinking electronic and hip hop producers.
Until then the man is releasing a series of free mash ups over the coming weeks starting with this: a mash up of Luda and Sebastian which takes the whole thing into dancefloor smashing territory by making the most of his typical chopped up style and injecting a serious dose of lazers in your ears. Ideal to hype you up for a night out or brock out in your living room, or at your desk.
You can download or stream below and for more info on the man, as well as live dates, downloads and the likes be sure to check his website. And if you haven’t yet check our archives for more from Kraddy in previous shows and guest mixes.
