<itunes:summary>Born in 2005 from the ashes of Turntable Radio and helmed by Mr Trick and Waxfactor, Rhythm Incursions started life as a radio show airing music that 'picked up where hip hop stopped'. Since then it has evolved to continue its mission and today - in a world where hip hop has evolved to embrace its mutations that were the exceptions rather than the norm only a few years ago - it provides discerning music for discerning ears with monthly shows and guest mixes from hand picked worldwide DJs, producers and labels. The Rhythm Incursions presenting team now includes Primus Luta and DDay One from the USA, Raid System from Tokyo and Laurent Fintoni from London as well as two exclusive guest mix series curated by Friends of Friends and Raid System. We love the music we play and we think you will too.</itunes:summary>

We’ve been waiting for this one for a long time here at Rhythm Inc towers. Take aka Sweatson Klank aka one of the pivotal pioneers of the L.A beat scene is releasing his second full length album next month. Dropping April 20th on the Alpha Pup label, ‘Only Mountain’ comes nearly 3 years after ‘Earthtones and Concrete’, an album I was introduced to by Om Unit and Waxfactor and which totally changed the way I viewed beats and eletronic minded hip hop. Which explains the aforementioned anticipation for this new album.

Coming on the heels of a series of EPs and remixes for labels like Eat Concrete, Friends of Friends and All City Records, ‘Only Mountain’ is a departure from the last album much more inline with his recent ‘sound’ which started appearing on his Eat Concrete EP back in 08 and was then further refined in his remix of Architeq’s ‘Sleeping Bear Laments’ or the three tracks he recently dropped on All City’s L.A 10×10 series. While different from his earlier work the music retains the same quality and composition that made it stand out from the rest in the past. This isn’t more beats by numbers, this is some incredible music by one of the unsung pioneers of the genre (if you will).

The lovely people at Alpha Pup are letting us post a taster from the album for you to stream/download in the shape of ‘Incredibright’. Also below some official words from the label:

Alpha Pup is proud to present Only Mountain, the newest release from L.A.-based beat producer Take. His most powerful and fully realized work to date, Only Mountain serves as a complete affirmation of Take’s ten prolific years in music production.

A dense and groundbreaking work, Take’s Only Mountain stands as a staggering collection of gorgeously brilliant melodies and deep subharmonic bass. Truly future music towards a brighter end.

Full tracklist for the album is below as is the download and stream links for ‘Incredibright’. Album drops April 20 on Alpha Pup label, digital and I think they have vinyl coming soon too. Here more from Take in our previous shows, browse all shows featuring him here.

The lovely people at Alpha Pup and Leaving Records (Matthewdavid’s new label) hit us up with promos of their new releases recently and also a link to a beat tape by a guy called Durlin Lurt. This beat tape, called ‘Him Jenson’ (no points for figuring out the joke there), is being given away for free by Leaving Records. Very little information is available beyond some blurb from the label…

The 2008 cult classic from Durlin Lurt now has a home. Sounding more fun and filthier than ever, the conceptual work spans the alphabet (twenty six tracks, with many familiar guest features) sampling you-know-who through an experimental hip-hop lens that is unique and absurdly organic.

Doing a bit of digging around I couldn’t find much more, but to be honest I’m quite happy to leave the ‘mystery’ as is and instead focus on the music, which is rather nice. A total trip of a beat tape, it’ll leave you fuzzy headed and smiling, as well as potentially singing random bits from Sesame Street.

The tape features a few guests including Rhythm Inc favourites like Dak and Dibiase.

So without further ado I recommend you get stuck into this excellent freebie and take a little trip for an hour or so.

Daddy Kev’s Low End Theory club night finally has its own podcast, rightfully following in the footsteps of the now defunct (I believe though I could be wrong) Alpha Pup podcast series.

Kev should be no stranger to regular listeners of the show, the man is somewhat of a legend on the L.A and West Coast underground and since setting up Low End Theory a few years ago the club has garnered more and more attention, becoming somewhat of a cult night on the American circuit with the cream of the worldwide hip hop, electronic and dance music scenes coming through on the regular.

For this first podcast Kev is joined by L.A beatsmith Samiyam. What else do you need to know?
