LuckyMe return to the Rhythm Inc airwaves with a mix from their friends over at Citinite records. The occasion, apart from showcasing some rather nice new and exclusive tracks, is that in November LuckyMe‘s Ballers Social Club and Citinite will be hosting some joint parties together in London and Glasgow.

The London party will take place on the 12th at The Lightbox in Vauxhall featuring live performances from Rustie, Dam Funk, Jimmy Edgar and Gosub – the kind of line-up that isn’t to be sniffed at I think we can agree. Check the Ballers Social Club myspace for flyers and full details of the London and Glasgow shows.

And in the meantime, get in the mood with this mix from Citinite which features a rather large amount of unreleased exclusive tracks from the label’s roster of artists. On an electro/funk/dance tip, adjectives which describe the label’s output as well, this mix is rather refreshing and ideal for the coming autumn days. It also includes the label’s latest release (I believe), Sweat.X’s ‘I’m That Alley’. A release that includes a tasty Mike Slott remix, making the connection between Citinite and LuckyMe even more obvious. The release is available now from all good stores, physical or digital.

Right then, all that’s left is to give you the link and tracklist and urge you to get to the parties as you’re unlikely to be dissapointed by the music on offer – we’ll unfortunately be in NYC so we have a ‘good excuse’.

Our good friends up north, the Glasgow-based LuckyMe collective, are about to celebrate two years of their Ballers Social Club nights. Beffiting such a celebration they’ve got Jamie Vex’d, Darkstar, Rustie and LuckyMe’s own The Blessings together for the first celebratory party (not sure how many there are going to be however). In anticipation of all this they’ve dropped us a new mix courtesy of Respite, the man behind the BSC nights.

See below for tracklist and download link. Plenty of good stuff in there to keep those of you attending happy, and those of you who can’t attend can at least feel a little of the infamous BSC party vibes. I was going to go, but then my bank account said no.

For full details of the second birthday celebrations, tickets etc… check the Myspace. For now though sit back, light up a cigar, grab some cognac and bounce.

Loops Haunt – Mini mix

We first discovered Loops Haunt thanks to our good friends at Ballers Social and LuckyMe a few months back. In fact we featured both him and fellow Dundee producer Samoyed ahead of their live show in Glasgow we liked their stuff so much.

Following this the man hit us up with some of his forthcoming releases, much to our pleasure. Granted it’s not the most ‘easy’ to listen to music, but it ticks the right boxes for us. It has a raw energy that’s undeniable, and it’s the kind of music that fits the ethos of the show perfectly – picking up where hip hop and others left off and moving things forward.

So it was a nice surprise to find a new mini mix from the man in the inbox over the weekend. Not much info or details, and as he puts it himself it’s mainly sketches, ideas and essentially just a laugh. However it’s a pretty good laugh as far as we’re concerned.

There is no tracklist yet, we’ll update soon as we have one. For now though, crank up to 11, sit back and get ready to be pummeled by some serious beats. For more on the man hit up his myspace. He has a few shows coming up across the UK and some releases forthcoming on the Black Acre label as well as French label Eklektik.

Samoyed and Loopshaunt – Ballers Social mini mixes

What do you all know about Dundee eh? We go up to Scotland this week with a truly inspiring couple of short of mixes from two Dundee-based producers by the name of Samoyed and Loopshaunt. The tip on, and mixes from, these two guys comes from the Ballers Social and LuckyMe family once more who will be putting them on for a live showcase at The Ivy in Glasgow at the end of the month. As a taster for their show Samoyed and Loopshaunt have put together some short mixes. So we’ve taken both mixes, strung them together with some digital magic and are very happy to bring them to your ears.

I wasn’t aware of either artist until Joe from Ballers mentioned them a few weeks back. I did a bit of digging online and couldn’t find much info bar some myspaces carrying music from both – that was enough though as the music definitely speaks for itself. Samoyed’s myspace can be found here, while Loopshaunt’s is over there. Going on the myspace info it looks like Samoyed has a release out Flask Records, which you can buy on wax or mp3 via his myspace page.

For the mixes the pair come with a different styling: Samoyed opted for 20 mins of club friendly beats and bass and what nots, perfect to get you in the mood for the weekend, while Loopshaunt delivers 10 mins of his own beats and remixes coated in apocalyptic sonics, not for the faint hearted but definitely ticking all the right boxes for us.

Thanks once more goes to the Ballers and LuckyMe fam for the hook up. If you’re in or around Glasgow at the end of the month be sure to check the show at The Ivy, more info on the Ballers myspace. 2tall and I went down there last week to see Kode 9 and Hud Mo and it was definitely one of the best parties and vibes we’ve been to/seen in a while, so it comes highly recommended. And keep an eye out on Samoyed and Loopshaunt, we reckon you’re definitely going to hear more from them both.

Fox Gut Daata Live at Ballers Social

foxgutdaata_300

We have another excellent live session courtesy of the LuckyMe family and Ballers Social Club night this month.

This time from Fox Gut Daata, a little known producer from the UK who I first came across last year on Myspace but don’t actually really know a lot about. The Viral Radio guys over in Holland have had him play at their night before and have mentioned him to me before, and his myspace is not exactly forthcoming with information.

Thing is the music is what really matters and in the case of Fox Gut Daata it very much does speak for itself. Though what kind of speech it represents is anyone’s guess – it’s definitely not your average speech pattern or accent, as you can hear for yourself on this short, but intense, live set.

If you had to describe the music, I guess you could say it falls somewhere near the current hip hop meets electronic music line but with its own twists and originalities.

Be sure to check the myspace for more links to live sessions and freely available tracks. As for the Ballers Social Club check their myspace for the latest party info. In the next month they have Kode 9, Hudson Mohawke, Gaslamp Killer and Samiyam all passing through. Once more thanks to Joe for the hook up on the live mix. Expect more in the future.

Joxaren – A tribute to all things Skweee

We take both a musical and geographical detour with our latest guest mix, via Finland, Sweden, Scotland and Skwee. LuckyMe, the Scotland-based label and collective which includes the likes of Mike Slott, Hudson Mohawke and Rustie, and their associate club night Ballers Social Club got in touch a few days ago asking if we’d help promote their forthcoming night with Swedish musician Joxaren who’s had more than a hand in helping the expansion of the Skweee sound. With our curiosity picked, we checked the tracklist and mix and it was a no-brainer from there on.

From the Ballers themselves here’s some info on Joxaren. Show details, tracklist and download link below.

David Giese aka Joxaren is a Swedish musician with a background in Punk, Dub, Hip Hop and Electro. He has performed over 500 live music shows in different constellations all over the world since 1988, and founded the influential electronic music collective Moder Jords Massiva alongside Skwee creator / ambassador Frans Carlqvist aka Pavan – who is the dynamic brains behind the exciting Flogsta Danshall imprint.

He will be showcasing his take on the bubbling Skwee genre, which has had huge coverage since its U.K debut at Ballers in January 08. His Disco – driven electronic music is filled with quirky key works, bumping drum loops and that sense of experimental freedom that defines and embodies the genre. Having played at the widely acclaimed Skwee showcase at Sonar Festival ’08, toured the globe with punk outfits Big Fish and Pure Pain in the 90′s, and recently taken to the road with Swedish electropop act Parken, Joxaren is an experienced performer of the highest quality!

His live show will be fashioned as all Skwee live shows are; completely hardware based, improvised and energetic. Using customised synthesizers, old drum machines, taped up guitar pedals, modified toys and the occasional keytar, its contains the joyous ideology of the Punk-Rock he grew up listening too.

With an upcoming limited 7″ on the highly collectable Flogsta Danshall label and his mind-blowing track ‘Fel i Facit’ released on the “Skweee Tooth” compilation through Ramp Recordings, 2009 is set to be another wonderful musical journey for this ever adventurous musician.

Joining Joxaren at the Ballers Social Club will be longtime friend and local hero Chikuma. Chikuma has put on some of the best dubstep guests to come through Glasgow in the past 12 months at his monthly Hunt Them Crew bash at Nice & Sleazys. Having played last year at a Skwee showcase in Finland, we thought he would do the perfect job of complimenting our Scandanavian guest. This Lucky Electronic Music Party is held in the newly located Ivy on Argyle St, Glasgow.

So to recap, Joxaren will appear at the March 28th edition of the Ballers Social Club, alongside Chikuma and regulars. For more info on the Ballers Social Club peep the myspace. Suffice to say that if you’re in Glasgow you could be doing a lot worse than checking this out, and if you don’t believe than peep the mix. It’s a tribute to all things Skweee from Depeche Mode to Young Dro. Also Ballers Social Club have in the last couple of years more than made a name for themselves as one of the finest, most open-minded nights in the UK, just in case you still needed convincing.
