Jammer – Better Than (Lorn remix)
Anyone who listens to the shows regularly or has been following us for a while now should know Lorn. Our story with the Milwaukee native goes waaaaaay back to the scratch internet boards days when he was making some of the most amazing, mind-bending loops for people to cut over. A few years ago he started reappearing on the radar with his own productions, and in 2009 his first proper debut album was snapped up by Brainfeeder for release (if you don’t count the extensive amount of music he’s put out for free before that, or the break record he released).
All of which only added to the surprise I got a few weeks back when Big Dada hit me up to say that Lorn had remixed the new Jammer single that the label will be releasing next week. Yes that’s right – Lorn from Milwaukee remixing Jammer, the grime legend from London. It doesn’t get better than this, literally.
‘Better Than’ is out March 15 on Big Dada, with original, instrumental and aforementioned Lorn remix which you can download/stream below courtesy of the lovely Dada people. Described as a dubstep remix elsewhere, I can see why people would say that, though personally Lorn’s take doesn’t particularly make me think of any specific genre, it’s just an incredibly heavy, crushing flip of the original, taking Jammer’s vocals into the territories Lorn is most comfortable in – dark, vicious territories with towering drums and bass lines.
If you want more from the man be sure to check his myspace, as well as the mini feature we did on him last year. And stay tuned for more previews of his album, ‘Nothing Else’ which will drop on Brainfeeder in June 2010. For now though enjoy this beauty of a remix.

Anti Pop Consortium release new single for free
Anti Pop Consortium are back, with a new album, a new label and a new single, the last of which they’re giving out for free via Amazon’s MP3 shop. Titled ‘Apparently’ you can grab your free copy by visiting the following link.
I won’t lie I haven’t actually had time to listen to the song, though I’ve checked out a few of the other songs from the album on their myspace and I gotta admit while I’ve never been a massive fan it’s sounding pretty good. Beans has always been a favourite MC of mine though, so checking anything with him in it can’t hurt.
Some PR blurb below from the forthcoming album, and stay tuned for some previews in the June Rhythm Inc show. For the rest peep the Big Dada site and their myspace, I believe they have a few dates in Europe during the summer, and most likely more once the album drops.
The mighty Anti-Pop Consortium return to the fray with a free download track from their forthcoming album, “Fluorescent Black,” due on 29th September, a seventeen track monster opus that is set to be one of the records of the year.
“Apparently” itself is classic APC – crunching robot-funk combined with the three distinct voices and flows of Beans, Priest and M.Sayyid. By turns funny, dense, allusive, clever and just devastatingly fresh, this is a group reminding us of their collective strength. Check it now and get all in a tizzy thinking about the album and to follow…
Widely regarded as cutting-edge innovators to a broad spectrum of listeners including b-boy purists, experimental electronic fans and indie rockers, Anti-Pop Consortium’s return is major news. The group have been praised for their stream-of consciousness lyrics, their ability to give seemingly unrelated word clusters hidden meaning, and their sonic backdrops that provide the perfect canvas for their lyrical paintings.
Since the album Arrhythmia (2002) was released to critical acclaim on Warp Records, and found them on tour with DJ Shadow and Radiohead among others, the group found it necessary to take a break and work on individual projects. Now they’re back stronger than ever. “We needed time to grow and mature as artists individually,” a statement from the group says. “Now that we have assessed our strengths and weaknesses, we are ready to re-form stronger and better than we have ever been before. The chemistry that we have together makes for exceptional music. It’s time to return.”
Cadence Weapon ‘shares’ new release with name-your-own-price
No you read that correctly. Ahead of the release of his new album, Big Dada signing Cadence Weapon is releasing an album of remixes and unreleased tracks and taking his cue from Radiohead and others by asking people to name their own price.
I haven’t had time to listen to it yet, but there’s definitely a few interesting ones on there including his remix of Busdriver. If you’re a fan of his previous work then this is definitely something worth checking out, and it’s nice to see more artists, especially less established ones then Radiohead or NIN choosing this route of asking people to pay what they want to for the music. Especially considering this acts essentially as promo for the forthcoming release (which let’s face it ain’t gonna be on the same terms).
From the press release:
The 20 tracks brought together in a 70-minute collection include the Mixmag exclusive Hervé/A-Trak/Cadence Weapon collaboration “Roll With The Winners” and remixes of label-mates The Cansecos and Roots Manuva, and arguably the show-stopper; a remix of The DB Buxton Revue’s “Sex With My Ex”.
