<itunes:summary>Born in 2005 from the ashes of Turntable Radio and helmed by Mr Trick and Waxfactor, Rhythm Incursions started life as a radio show airing music that 'picked up where hip hop stopped'. Since then it has evolved to continue its mission and today - in a world where hip hop has evolved to embrace its mutations that were the exceptions rather than the norm only a few years ago - it provides discerning music for discerning ears with monthly shows and guest mixes from hand picked worldwide DJs, producers and labels. The Rhythm Incursions presenting team now includes Primus Luta and DDay One from the USA, Raid System from Tokyo and Laurent Fintoni from London as well as two exclusive guest mix series curated by Friends of Friends and Raid System. We love the music we play and we think you will too.</itunes:summary>

So with a little delay here comes the February podcast from my good self, aptly retitled to March pt.1 – expect another show end of month as usual. With the shorter amount of days last month and relentless work I’ve had to finish before my upcoming trip (more on that soon) it just wasn’t possible to get the show done in time without rushing it. Add to this the fact that this instalment is a seriously heavy affair and I felt it was only right to take a few more days and give you something worthwhile.

Putting the tracklist together I’ve just realised that out of 41 tracks in this show, 34 are forthcoming – a good reflection of the quality and amount of good music we’ve been privileged to receive in the inbox. And there were another 10 odd tracks I wanted to include. This month’s show is also a reflection of labels we’re feeling this year. Brainfeeder, Flying Lotus’ musical child, is the subject of our mini feature with new music from Mono/Poly, Taylor McFerrin, Matthewdavid and Jerimiah Jae covering the spectrum from blunted beats to smooth, modern jazz. And then we’ve also got the Friends of Friends label (close friends of ours) represented with 3 tracks from upcoming releases by Shlomho, Groundislava and Mexicans with Guns, our other good friends at Project Mooncircle are featured with two recent releases from Robot Koch & John Robinson and Long Arm and then there’s Car Crash Set who’ve sent us new music from Pixelord and John Lemmon (awesome name btw).

Elsewhere we’ve got new music from Uncle Lew & Coco B, Kode 9 & The Spaceape, Julio Bashmore, SCB, Danny Drive Thru, Lorn, Non Projects, Rick Wilhite, Austin Peralta, Subeena, Quantic, Chrissy Murderbot, Om Unit, Nicolas Jaar, Lopez, Siriusmo, Royalty, 1000 Names, Prefuse 73 and more – covering a broad range of music. I somehow feel that this month’s show really lives up to our tagline of discerning music for discerning ears. It changes and moves and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

As always be sure to check the artists and labels (all linked below) if you feel the music. Download and/or stream below or simply subscribe to the RSS/iTunes/newsletter to get the goodies directly in your inbox.

I’ll be back late march – live from Tokyo as I’ll be in Japan for six weeks from next week. Expect some udpates on the site in that time, guest mixes from our FoF series, Skyence and more including a mega special secret download dropping in the next two weeks. No more details but it will be worth it trust me. I’ll also be joining the Raid System boys on March 25th for a special party in Tokyo that’ll be broadcast on Ustream. More details soon.

Meanwhile enjoy, bump loud and share.

And so here we are at the end of the year, and the decade. Let us therefore indulge in this most seasonal of traditions with a two-part, end of year ‘best of’ show for 2009. The idea was to build on last year’s first installment, and then before I knew it I’d sat down in front of the computer with a shortlist of 100+ tracks and the idea of actually doing a proper mix as opposed to a simple selection of tracks. As with last year there is no talking this time round, just pure music selection for your enjoyment.

We start with part 1 and 50 odd tracks which have all been highlights of the year here at Rhythm Inc towers from the likes of Architeq, Paul White, Alice Russell, Raekwon, DOOM, Oh No, Heliocentrics, Loops Haunt, LuckyMe, Robot Koch, Milanese, King Midas Sound, 2nd Class Citizen and many, many more. The selection is a nice representation of this year’s playlists too with a couple of previously un-aired goodies thrown in on top. As always complete tracklist below with link to the mix for those that aren’t subscribed to our feed or iTunes channels (hint hint).

As I said this best of show is more of a ‘mix’ than our normal shows – everything has been mixed and mashed up to allow me to fit as much music as I can in 75 minutes and still give every track a chance to shine.

Part two will be dropping very shortly, either on Christmas eve or Boxing day (the day after xmas) – it all depends on how much I manage to get done tonight. It will feature another 50 or so tracks from our best of 2009 list as well as the second ‘Labels of 09′ mini-feature, this time looking at the output of Ramp Recordings which is by far one of the stand out labels of the year for us. And don’t forget to check last month’s show for part of our ‘Labels of 09′ mini-feature which looked at the excellent One Handed Music.

So I won’t keep you any longer. Get stuck in, lie back, crank up the volume, ignore the family members and enjoy the first half of our best of 09 show!

<itunes:summary>And so here we are at the end of the year, and the decade. Let us therefore indulge in this most seasonal of traditions with a two-part, end of year 'best of' show for 2009. The idea was to build on last year's first installment, and then before I knew it I'd sat down in front of the computer with a shortlist of 100+ tracks and the idea of actually doing a proper mix as opposed to a simple selection of tracks.

The selection is a nice representation of this year's playlists too with a couple of previously un-aired goodies thrown in on top. As always complete tracklist below with link to the mix for those that aren't subscribed to our feed or iTunes channels (hint hint).

As I said this best of show is more of a 'mix' than our normal shows - everything has been mixed and mashed up to allow me to fit as much music as I can in 75 minutes and still give every track a chance to shine.

We reach the last but one show of the year with yet more exclusives and brand new music for your listening enjoyment. In addition, the mini feature this month is part 1 of a ‘Labels of 2009′ feature as I couldn’t just choose one label this year so instead decided to shine a light on two labels who both deserve it in my opinion.

Music wise we’ve got some exclusive previews of music from Om Unit, Loops Haunt, Debruit, Leatherette and Ernesto Gonzales, all of which will be dropping in the first quarter of 2010. Alongside these we have the usual fresh music from a host of artists and labels including Hyperdub, Ramp Recordings, Tectonic, Dutty Artz, the amazing Mr Chop release on Now Again/Five Day Weekend, the psychedelic new Edan release, Madlib and Strong Arm Steady, Non+Herrmutt Lobby, SA-RA, DJ Food, Ben Sharpa and many more.

As for the mini feature, well part 1 of the ‘Labels of 2009′ shines a light on One Handed MUsic, the London-based independent headed by Alex Chase (also responsible for Stones Throw in Europe). Despite, or most likely because, its small roster of artists, 2009 has been a good year for the label release wise with the Paul White debut album, another 2 EPs from the prolific London beat-maker, an EP from Bullion the label’s other, hugely promising London artist, and an amazing EP from Fulgeance, the French MPC master who does ‘chopped & screwed house’ (as Mr Trick called it) like no one else can. The releases aren’t just the reason why I choose OHM as a label of the year – it’s everything else, like Alex’s obviously on point A&R and the artwork and attention that has gone into every release, whether physical or digital (anyone who’s seen the hand-sewn pillow cases for the Paul White album will testity). So I’ll let the music do the talking with a selection of five tracks from this year’s releases. Look out for OHM to continue their rise in 2010 with more Paul White, a long-awaited Tranquill EP and more.

Part 2 of the mini-feature will be coming next month, looking at Ramp Recordings, which ironically Alex Chase pointed out was also run by someone from Suffolk, that is Tom@Ramp. So looks like Suffolk had it on lock for ’09 then – who would have thought. The December show will most likely be similar to the one I put together last year, ie. a best of 09 mix with the label mini feature included in there. Look out for details soon, it’ll drop just before xmas in time for the seasonal overload.

For now though, sit back, crank up the volume and enjoy. And remember check the tracklist for full details of websites and where to buy the music and go out and support if you like what you hear!

Despite, or most likely because, its small roster of artists, 2009 has been a good year for the label release wise with the Paul White debut album, another 2 EPs from the prolific London beat-maker, an EP from Bullion the label's other, hugely promising London artist, and an amazing EP from Fulgeance, the French MPC master who does 'chopped & screwed house' (as Mr Trick called it) like no one else can. The releases aren't just the reason why I choose OHM as a label of the year - it's everything else, like Alex's obviously on point A&R and the artwork and attention that has gone into every release, whether physical or digital (anyone who's seen the hand-sewn pillow cases for the Paul White album will testity). So I'll let the music do the talking with a selection of five tracks from this year's releases.

So looks like Suffolk had it on lock for '09 then - who would have thought. The December show will most likely be similar to the one I put together last year, ie. a best of 09 mix with the label mini feature included in there. Look out for details soon, it'll drop just before xmas in time for the seasonal overload.

For now though, sit back, crank up the volume and enjoy. And remember check the tracklist for full details of websites and where to buy the music and go out and support if you like what you hear!

A last minute guest mix dropped in our inbox earlier this week from Tokyo-based Matt B, one half of Bass Science and a good friend of ours. Matt’s been busy this summer touring Europe and America, and is now returning to Tokyo I believe where he is running the Made in Glitch nights and associated label, among other things.

Matt put together a short 30 minute mix, originally for Sub FM, and dropped us a copy. After a listen it was obvious we needed to share this with you all. Taking in quite a few of our own favourites from recent times, alongside some exclusives from his own label and friends it’s a rather good little musical trip. Perfect for the summer in fact, and we hope you’ll agree.

So sit back and enjoy the ride.
Look out for more from Matt and Bass Science in coming months and in the meantime check the myspaces for tour and release info. And stay tuned for more guest mixes very soon too.

We’re back with a much delayed regular show. Apologies for the lack of updates and shows in June, but life got in the way with work, other projects and my own Original Cultures work. Still the upside is we’ve got quite a lot of stuff to get through, so this month there’ll be two regular shows, with the next one dropping towards the end of the month. In between we should also have a few guest mixes and other surprises so stay tuned to the site.

As for this month’s new show, it’s another 80 mins of fresh new sounds and older favourites taking in music from Cooly G, Awol One, Busdriver, Milanese, Om Unit, Clutchy Hopkins, FaltyDL, Mr Dibiase, SA-RA, Push Button Objects, Prefuse 73, Joker, Bibio, Ras G and many more. Full tracklist below.

This month’s mini feature shines a light on L.A. producer Take aka Sweatson Klank. Take is by far one of my favourite producers in the whole ‘beat scene’ movement, and someone who I think is quite often forgotten or underated when discussing the recent rise in popularity and attention surrounding the whole beat thing. More than that, having been around for 10+ years, Take links the old and the new as far as the beat thing goes, having helped to usher in the beat movement in L.A. alongside people like Kutmah, Eric Coleman and others. His work, like that of people like Prefuse and Dabrye, nicely shows this and this mini feature shines a little light on this acting as a nice introduction to those who may not know of him. Peep the tracklist for full details and check his myspace for all the latest release news. Also look out for an interview I did with the man coming out shortly, here’s a sneak peek.

As usual you can download/stream the show directly below and/or subscribe via RSS or iTunes so you never miss a thing.

Enjoy and catch you in a few weeks.

<itunes:summary>We're back with a much delayed regular show. Apologies for the lack of updates and shows in June, but life got in the way with work, other projects and my own Original Cultures work. Still the upside is we've got quite a lot of stuff to get through, so this month there'll be two regular shows, with the next one dropping towards the end of the month. In between we should also have a few guest mixes and other surprises so stay tuned to the site.

As for this month's new show, it's another 80 mins of fresh new sounds and older favourites taking in music from Cooly G, Awol One, Busdriver, Milanese, Om Unit, Clutchy Hopkins, FaltyDL, Mr Dibiase, SA-RA, Push Button Objects, Prefuse 73, Joker, Bibio, Ras G and many more. Full tracklist below.

This month's mini feature shines a light on L.A. producer Take aka Sweatson Klank. Take is by far one of my favourite producers in the whole 'beat scene' movement, and someone who I think is quite often forgotten or underated when discussing the recent rise in popularity and attention surrounding the whole beat thing. Also look out for an interview I did with the man coming out shortly, here's a sneak peek.

As usual you can download/stream the show directly below and/or subscribe via RSS or iTunes so you never miss a thing.

Enjoy and catch you in a few weeks.

Despite having come down with a nasty bit of flu we soldier on this month with another show full of musical goodness, including plenty of new and exciting forthcoming bits. Just ignore the gruff tone of voice. EDIT: I’ve also just realised I forgot to edit the intro, so it doesn’t repeat for ten seconds. Apologies all but I thought it best to put the show out rather than wait another couple of hours. It goes with the whole being ill thing.

2009 continues to be a pretty interesting year, with each month bringing new releases from new and established artists and labels, and we’re not about to complain. This month is no different with our selection box full of some great music including new bits from the likes of Bibio, AM Architect, DOOM, Take, Lorn, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing, Martyn, Hudson Mohawke and many more. From downtempo moods to straight up hip hop boom bap to deep dubby styles and mashed up electronica and chiptune, it’s all covered one way or another.

The mini feature this month looks at the recently launched Friends of Friends label out in L.A., which we wrote about a few weeks back. As usual check the playlist below for full details, and links to where you can buy the music. If you like what you hear, go out there and support the artists.

And stay tuned to the site for more guest mixes in the coming month, including the last of our L.A. specials and a guest mix from the Musique Large label in Paris, as well as more to be announced. For now though, sit back and enjoy!
