<itunes:summary>Born in 2005 from the ashes of Turntable Radio and helmed by Mr Trick and Waxfactor, Rhythm Incursions started life as a radio show airing music that 'picked up where hip hop stopped'. Since then it has evolved to continue its mission and today - in a world where hip hop has evolved to embrace its mutations that were the exceptions rather than the norm only a few years ago - it provides discerning music for discerning ears with monthly shows and guest mixes from hand picked worldwide DJs, producers and labels. The Rhythm Incursions presenting team now includes Primus Luta and DDay One from the USA, Raid System from Tokyo and Laurent Fintoni from London as well as two exclusive guest mix series curated by Friends of Friends and Raid System. We love the music we play and we think you will too.</itunes:summary>

<img src="http://www.rhythm-incursions.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Sophisticated-Weapon-Cover-570x570.jpg" alt="" title="Sophisticated Weapon Cover" width="450 class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-2176" />

Our latest guest mix comes courtesy of Chaps One, a long time friend and partner of DJ Pain with whom he collaborated on the Hermanos del Pulpo mix we featured a few years back – still available here if you haven’t heard it yet.

A few weeks back Pain got in touch to say Chaps had done another mix, so always we jumped at the chance to get it on the site. With the success of Pain’s latest mix which we aired last year in collaboration with Monday Jazz we thought it only right to do the same with this new Chaps One mix. It’s available both here and on Monday Jazz for your audio enjoyment.

As for the mix, well Sophisticated Weapon is definitely up there with Hermanos del Pulpo and other cinematic classics that we’ve aired in the past – see Buddy Peace as well. It’s an hour long ride into instrumental hip hop and electronic music with plenty of movie samples weaving a narrative atop. It’s sure to leave you feeling ready to take on the week and makes for the perfect partner on bus/bike/car rides.

No tracklist on Chaps’ request, but be sure to hit the man up on his myspace if you want more. Big thanks to Chaps, Pain and Paulius at Monday Jazz.

As always download and/or stream below or subscribe to the RSS/iTunes/newsletter and get all the shows directly in your inbox. For now just crank up the volume and enjoy!

I’m very happy to welcome back DJ Pain to the Rhythm Incursions airwaves, in association with our good friends at Mondayjazz.

Regular listeners should be no stranger to Pain, who I believe holds the dubious title of most featured guest mixer by the way and is responsible for such mix gems as ‘Road To Oblivion’ and ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’. You can check all his past offerings here and ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ here (for some reason it’s not in our archive).

I hooked up with him a few months back when he came through town on a tour of Europe, and in between catching up and talking about life he mentioned a new mix he’d finished last year and which he wanted to get out. It was a no brainer for us, and we managed to also get the guys at Mondayjazz involved after they mentioned they were big fans as well.

So ladies and gentlemen here is the latest DJ Pain mix, Remembering Tomorrow a 70 mins psych rock trip assembled as only the man can with a plethora of spoken samples that weave a story as fascinating as the music. And before anyone asks there is no tracklist.

The show is available to download, and stream, here and on the Mondayjazz site. Remember the best way to get the latest shows is to subscribe to our RSS or iTunes feeds or our newsletter.

For more on Pain check his website and stay tuned for another mix from him in the near future. In the meantime enjoy this musical roadtrip. Much love to Pain for hooking us up and to Mondayjazz for arranging the artwork courtesy of Grape Frogg.

Now this one somehow would have slipped right by us, if it wasn’t for DJ Pain sending me an email on an unrelated note and mentioning that he’d sent a new mix to Trick a while back and hadn’t heard from him yet. Considering Pain is by far one of our favourite DJs, and a de-facto Rhythm-Incursions extended family member following his previous contributions to the show, it soon became clear that somehow, someway the email had fallen foul of a spam filter or something else. Lucky then that we picked up on it because this one is another unmissable mix.

The Odd Side of The Sun is DJ Pain’s tribute of sorts to the producer Odd Nosdam. I’ll let the man explain in a bit more detail:

The mix features all beats by producer Odd Nosdam throughout his career with the Mush and Anticon labels minus the Clouddead output that I didn’t want to focus on for the mix. I went through all of his beats that I had and wanted to do something that stayed close to his original work, yet at the same time throw my own twist on it. There’s almost 40 tracks mixed together in about 51 minutes. The mix is a little A.D.D on steroids, but I think it’s a good point for people to learn and hopefully enjoy Odd Nosdam’s tracks as much as I do… Elektro4 did the artwork.

The result is an instantly listenable and addictive instrumental ride into the work of Odd Nosdam, a great way to enjoy his music if you’re a fan and a perfect introduction if you’re not familiar with his output (which was the case for me as I only knew a few of his beats). The whole thing is wrapped up in the kind of tight package that you’d expect from DJ Pain.

It’s a pleasure to have Pain grace the Rhythm Incursions airwaves once more. So sit back, strap on your headphones or ready your speakers and crank it up to 11. No tracklist on this one, but the mix is 320kpbs goodness.

For more on DJ Pain make sure you check his myspace. And for Odd Nosdam look here.

Its with a strange sense of pride that I’ve watched DJ Pain establish himself as one of the finest purveyors of mixes out there, not least I guess because I kinda had the pleasure of boosting his reach over on my own blog when I hosted his “The Day The Earth Stood Still” mix. Word clearly spread quick on that one, as within 6 months it was soaring well past the 10,000 downloads mark and getting chatted about all over the damn place. A year later, Pain delivered his second work for our ears, Road To Oblivion, and once again it proved this guy can deliver the goods and then some.

So, imagine my delight when the man himself got back in touch to say he’d completed a new mix alongside friend and fellow DJ Chaps One. From here I’ll let Pain take up the story:

We started a crew back in early 2000 and released some Mix’s and were playing 2×4 gig’s across southern california at the time for many west coast hip hop shows. Opening for the likes of the Shape Shifters, Visionaries, Sage Francis, 2Mex, Busdriver just to name a few. Our last Mix was in 2003 and since then with families getting larger and life it self moving around, things got busy for both of us. We sat down late last year and decided it’s high time we team up on some Live projects and some Mix’s again. I was very pleased with this, we always had this chemistry in our Mix’s and Live Shows that you just cant get from one person alone on a single set of deck’s, especially @ live shows. Our Crew name is a bit of a story in it self, we are called “Hermanos Del Pulpo” or in english “Brothers Of The Octopus”. The concept of the crew and our projects is basically heavily seated in sci fi moods and we carry this as a theme in all our projects. Hence, probably you’ll hark back to some of the sci fi themed stuff I do in my own solo projects and why The Day The Earth… Mix had the quirky monster octopus intro…

We entitled this Mix “HDP” and as you can guess the sci fi theme is pumped thru out… I will let the Mix speak for itself,..

Just wanted to give a brief synopsis on the relationship of the crew and how we got started…

I am proud of this Mix on a few different levels. On the unreleased tip… The Mix features 2 New Exclusive beats from Elektro 4 and 1 track by DJ Exile. DJ Egadz aka Kidwithout Radio and EVS gave us a new unreleased song each aswell…

Also a major shout out to King Megatrip is in order, awhile back shortly after “Road To Oblivion” I started to talk to him quite often thru email and when I told him about this project. He sent me a couple choice samples for the Mix. I didnt quite give him the whole run down of the project and with the vague theme idea I ran passed him, he sent over some great material he thought wouldn’t benefit me too much. Ha ha, he has not heard this yet, I hope he likes that we used some of it, along with our own samples gathered.

Well I hope you enjoy the self titled “HDP” Mix. I feel like this Mix has a little something for everyone and there will be alot more projects coming out from the “Hermanos Del Pulpo” as well as my own solo projects… As “Hermanos Del Pulpo” DJ Chaps One and I have already started on two other Mix’s aswell so hopefully the goal is to get one or two of those out by fall….

As ever, this mix is wall-to-wall killer, with the kind of excellent narrative themes and sick beats we’ve come to know and love from this skilled Californian. As he mentions above, there are also tasty exclusives by way of some new Elektro4 beats and a brand new track from DJ Exile. So, get your download on and enjoy HDP – god knows we are and we’ve had it for some 4 weeks now!

<itunes:summary>Its with a strange sense of pride that I've watched DJ Pain establish himself as one of the finest purveyors of mixes out there, not least I guess because I kinda had the pleasure of boosting his reach over on my own blog when I hosted his "The Day The Earth Stood Still" mix. Word clearly spread quick on that one, as within 6 months it was soaring well past the 10,000 downloads mark and getting chatted about all over the damn place. A year later, Pain delivered his second work for our ears, Road To Oblivion, and once again it proved this guy can deliver the goods and then some.

So, imagine my delight when the man himself got back in touch to say he'd completed a new mix alongside friend and fellow DJ Chaps One. From here I'll let Pain take up the story:

We started a crew back in early 2000 and released some Mix's and were playing 2x4 gig's across southern california at the time for many west coast hip hop shows. Opening for the likes of the Shape Shifters, Visionaries, Sage Francis, 2Mex, Busdriver just to name a few. Our last Mix was in 2003 and since then with families getting larger and life it self moving around, things got busy for both of us. We sat down late last year and decided it's high time we team up on some Live projects and some Mix's again. I was very pleased with this, we always had this chemistry in our Mix's and Live Shows that you just cant get from one person alone on a single set of deck's, especially @ live shows. Our Crew name is a bit of a story in it self, we are called "Hermanos Del Pulpo" or in english "Brothers Of The Octopus". The concept of the crew and our projects is basically heavily seated in sci fi moods and we carry this as a theme in all our projects. Hence, probably you'll hark back to some of the sci fi themed stuff I do in my own solo projects and why The Day The Earth... Mix had the quirky monster octopus intro...

We entitled this Mix "HDP" and as you can guess the sci fi theme is pumped thru out... I will let the Mix speak for itself,..

Just wanted to give a brief synopsis on the relationship of the crew and how we got started...

I am proud of this Mix on a few different levels. On the unreleased tip... The Mix features 2 New Exclusive beats from Elektro 4 and 1 track by DJ Exile. DJ Egadz aka Kidwithout Radio and EVS gave us a new unreleased song each aswell...

Also a major shout out to King Megatrip is in order, awhile back shortly after "Road To Oblivion" I started to talk to him quite often thru email and when I told him about this project. He sent me a couple choice samples for the Mix. I didnt quite give him the whole run down of the project and with the vague theme idea I ran passed him, he sent over some great material he thought wouldn't benefit me too much. Ha ha, he has not heard this yet, I hope he likes that we used some of it, along with our own samples gathered.

Well I hope you enjoy the self titled "HDP" Mix. I feel like this Mix has a little something for everyone and there will be alot more projects coming out from the "Hermanos Del Pulpo" as well as my own solo projects... As "Hermanos Del Pulpo" DJ Chaps One and I have already started on two other Mix's aswell so hopefully the goal is to get one or two of those out by fall....

As ever, this mix is wall-to-wall killer, with the kind of excellent narrative themes and sick beats we've come to know and love from this skilled Californian. As he mentions above, there are also tasty exclusives by way of some new Elektro4 beats and a brand new track from DJ Exile. So, get your download on and enjoy HDP - god knows we are and we've had it for some 4 weeks now!

Now, DJ Pain is someone who contacted me some time back when he had a mix he wanted us to hear. I checked it, liked where it was going and sent back a hearty email of encouragement telling him he was onto good things. Next time Pain got in touch, it was to send over his now near-legendary “Day The Earth Stood Still” mix, which was so on-point for Rhythm Incursions it almost read like a summary of everything we’d loved over the previous 12 months and more. I liked the mix so much I offered to host it for download – and now, some 7000 downloads later, Pain is back with another mix for you ears. Needless to say you can imagine my delight when he offered it to us first. As with his previous mix, the quality of selection here is insane, and once more it blends drama and dialogue with some of the choicest beats of recent times.

The mix itself aired on the show with an introduction from myself. For the podcast version though, we’re dropping my chatter in favour of pushing the mix out in its original form – as it should be heard.

So, sit back, enjoy one of the best mixes of recent times and once you’re done, head over to Pain’s MySpace to drop a line and give him the props he’s most certainly due.
