<itunes:summary>Born in 2005 from the ashes of Turntable Radio and helmed by Mr Trick and Waxfactor, Rhythm Incursions started life as a radio show airing music that 'picked up where hip hop stopped'. Since then it has evolved to continue its mission and today - in a world where hip hop has evolved to embrace its mutations that were the exceptions rather than the norm only a few years ago - it provides discerning music for discerning ears with monthly shows and guest mixes from hand picked worldwide DJs, producers and labels. The Rhythm Incursions presenting team now includes Primus Luta and DDay One from the USA, Raid System from Tokyo and Laurent Fintoni from London as well as two exclusive guest mix series curated by Friends of Friends and Raid System. We love the music we play and we think you will too.</itunes:summary>

As announced last week our label of the year for 2010 is All City – or more accurately my label of the year as Primus Luta and the Raid System boys are also choosing their own. With this in mind, we’ve been busy talking to Olan, who runs the Dublin-based label, over the last few months to arrange a guest mix to celebrate the occasion. As it turns out he offered to do two mixes, the first of which is this mini mix of 10 records from 2010. This will be followed by a proper mix called ‘A Random Slice of Cali’ celebrating his love of music from the area as well as All City’s L.A 10 x 10 series which was released throughout the year on the label (and which we’ve featured extensively throughout the year on the shows).

First up though are 10 records from the year which Olan wanted to share. Funnily enough these reflect a lot of the records that we’ve also enjoyed here at Rhythm Inc towers with artists like Floating Points, Shed, Kyle Hall and Untold all appearing. And for the trainspotters out there the mix also includes the amazing collabo between Martyn and Mike Slott which the label will be releasing shortly.

Not much more to say on this – it’s really just a little taster of All City’s musical preferences and the perfect appetizer for the main mix which will drop tomorrow! Be sure to stay tuned for that.

In the meantime if you’re not familiar with the All City label than be sure to check our archives for plenty of music from them including quite a few free downloads from the L.A 10 x 10 series.

Or just head over to their website where you can peruse and buy all their releases. Alongside the excellent 10 x 10 series which the label has put out this year, featuring luminaries and newcomers including Dam Funk, Matthewdavid, Take, Tokimonsta, Computer Jay, Daedelus, and many more, you should also get the Beatstrumental 7 x 7 series which preceeded it in 2008 and was an excellent showcase of the growing beat scene post-Beat Dimensions with 7″s from Fulgeance, Le NKO, Hudson Mohawke, Mike Slott and more. Quite frankly every release on the label has been of quality and so you should really just treat yourself to as much as you can!

As always download and/or stream below. And be sure to sign up to our RSS/iTunes/newsletter to ensure you never miss a show.

Come back tomorrow for part 2 of our celebration of All City records as label of 2010 and for now enjoy Olan’s mini mix of 10 records for 2010.

It’s February, the weather on this side of the world could still be primarily described as apocalyptic and the recession is still going on apparently. All of which means you need some fresh new music and aural pleasures more than ever. Fear not, we’ve got you covered.

Up this month we take a close look at Mux Mool, an NYC-based artist we first discovered thanks to Jakub at Ghostly Int and who will be releasing a new album on the label in the coming weeks. We look at some new and older tracks of his, showing his versatile approach to hip hop and electronic music. It goes without saying we’re big fans.

Elsewhere this month we’ve got lots of new, forthcoming tracks including new Big Dada and Ninja Tune releases by Infesticons, Bonobo, Jagga Jazzist and Juice Aleem, new tracks from Fulgeance, Pixelord, FaltyDL, Daisuke Tanabe, Kyle Hall, Nocando featuring Busdriver, Soul Litchfield, Rudi Zygadlo, Oh No and some tasty exclusives from Wrongtom, Om Unit, Tatsuki and Depakote which you won’t hear anywhere else (unless the artists themselves are bumping it).

So without further ado I’ll leave you for another 2 hours of musical goodness, and excuse my rather gruff tone of voice on the presenting tip but I’ve been fighting a cold (or is that man flu?) for the last week and haven’t been feeling very well. Still you can’t stop the good shit so get stuck in, sit back and crank it up to 11 on the volume dial.

As usual the playlist, see below, includes full links and details to all artists and labels pages/websites where you can buy or download the music. If you like what you hear than go support it.

See you next month for more of the same and look out for more exclusive mixes from Primus Luta and Himuro Yoshiteru in the coming weeks.

We wrap up 2009 with part 2 of our ‘best of’ mix. This is the last show of the year and continues to run down some of our favourite tracks from the last 12 months.

The mix starts with our second ‘Labels of 09′ mini feature looking at Ramp Recordings, a label that for me has had an incredible year and put out good music, consistently without worrying about scenes, genres and things like that. Doing eclectic isn’t necessarily hard though, doing it well however is and for me Ramp is one of those labels who managed to do just that: serve up a truly eclectic mix of releases, artists and styles and do so with a cohesion, quality control and consistency that only makes the music shine that much more. Add to this some quality artwork and an ear for snapping up producers that are bubbling under, like FaltyDL, Shortstuff or Tokimonsta, and you have a label which you need to make time for if you haven’t yet.

As I said they’ve had a rather busy year with something close to ten or so releases so I’ve managed to fit as much as I can in this mini feature with pretty much one track from every release this year, bar one or two. If you like what you hear then check the website and catch up with some seriously good music.

Elsewhere part 2 of the best of 09 features music from the likes of Darkstar, Peverelist, Joker, Dorian Concept, Daedelus, Clutchy Hopkins, Soundspecies, Mount Kimbie, Hudson Mohawke, Floating Points, Machinedrum, Poirier, Blue Daisy, Jamie Vex’d, Quarta330 and many more.

As usual tracklist and download links below. And if you haven’t yet may we suggest you sign up to the newsletter, RSS feed or iTunes feed and this way you’ll never miss a show.

So that’s it for 2009, and the first decade of this century/millenium. Many thanks to all our listeners, all the labels and artists we’ve worked with and who’ve supported us, all our guests, our extended family, DDay One, Mr Trick, 2tall and everyone else. It’s been a great year and here’s to 2010!

Peace

As promised we round off July (just in time too) with another 80 mins of fresh new music, exclusives and all that good stuff. Summer is generally a quiet time for music, but it’s fair to say that this year is a bit of an exception with quite a few releases worthy of your attention that have either just come out, are about to or will be out once summer ends (that last part not applying to anyone London obviously, as summer seems to have already ended).

In no specific order we’ve got new music Blue Daisy, Foreign Beggarz, Poirier and Face-T, Shackleton, Shortstuff, Floating Points, DJ Buzz, Disrupt, Elaquent, Tranqill, XLII, Nosaj Thing, Lorn, Guilty Simpson, Fulgeance and more.

Having realised that the last few mini features have all been about west coast producers (without meaning to) this month we turn our attention to Europe, and Austria in particular with 5 tracks from the young producer Dorian Concept – a man who’s been a pleasure to discover and follow with a truly unique take on the whole beat/electronic hip hop thing, backed by some of the most ridiculously exhilarating synth melodies. Peep this really good interview with the man by On-Point for further proof/explanation. The 5 tracks span Dorian’s short but fairly intense discography so far.

So that’s about it for July, stay tuned for more guest mixes in August as well as the regular show, sometime towards the end of the month. For now though, sit back, relax and enjoy!

<itunes:summary>As promised we round off July (just in time too) with another 80 mins of fresh new music, exclusives and all that good stuff. Summer is generally a quiet time for music, but it's fair to say that this year is a bit of an exception with quite a few releases worthy of your attention that have either just come out, are about to or will be out once summer ends (that last part not applying to anyone London obviously, as summer seems to have already ended).

In no specific order we've got new music Blue Daisy, Foreign Beggarz, Poirier and Face-T, Shackleton, Shortstuff, Floating Points, DJ Buzz, Disrupt, Elaquent, Tranqill, XLII, Nosaj Thing, Lorn, Guilty Simpson, Fulgeance and more.

Having realised that the last few mini features have all been about west coast producers (without meaning to) this month we turn our attention to Europe, and Austria in particular with 5 tracks from the young producer Dorian Concept - a man who's been a pleasure to discover and follow with a truly unique take on the whole beat/electronic hip hop thing, backed by some of the most ridiculously exhilarating synth melodies. Peep this really good interview with the man by On-Point for further proof/explanation. The 5 tracks span Dorian's short but fairly intense discography so far.

So that's about it for July, stay tuned for more guest mixes in August as well as the regular show, sometime towards the end of the month. For now though, sit back, relax and enjoy!

We’re back with a much delayed regular show. Apologies for the lack of updates and shows in June, but life got in the way with work, other projects and my own Original Cultures work. Still the upside is we’ve got quite a lot of stuff to get through, so this month there’ll be two regular shows, with the next one dropping towards the end of the month. In between we should also have a few guest mixes and other surprises so stay tuned to the site.

As for this month’s new show, it’s another 80 mins of fresh new sounds and older favourites taking in music from Cooly G, Awol One, Busdriver, Milanese, Om Unit, Clutchy Hopkins, FaltyDL, Mr Dibiase, SA-RA, Push Button Objects, Prefuse 73, Joker, Bibio, Ras G and many more. Full tracklist below.

This month’s mini feature shines a light on L.A. producer Take aka Sweatson Klank. Take is by far one of my favourite producers in the whole ‘beat scene’ movement, and someone who I think is quite often forgotten or underated when discussing the recent rise in popularity and attention surrounding the whole beat thing. More than that, having been around for 10+ years, Take links the old and the new as far as the beat thing goes, having helped to usher in the beat movement in L.A. alongside people like Kutmah, Eric Coleman and others. His work, like that of people like Prefuse and Dabrye, nicely shows this and this mini feature shines a little light on this acting as a nice introduction to those who may not know of him. Peep the tracklist for full details and check his myspace for all the latest release news. Also look out for an interview I did with the man coming out shortly, here’s a sneak peek.

As usual you can download/stream the show directly below and/or subscribe via RSS or iTunes so you never miss a thing.

Enjoy and catch you in a few weeks.

While it’s been a bit of a quiet month here at Rhythm Inc headquarters (life has a habit of getting in the way like that), the music has kept coming in thick and fast. This month’s show is therefore another slightly extended edition with 70 minutes of fresh new music and exclusives. From the live, funky sounds of El Michels Affair and The Heliocentrics to the dubbed out riddims of Dubterror, T-Woc and Ras G via 21st century gfunk from Joker, Funky stylings from Kode 9 and boom bap headnodders and the new school hip hop flavours of Willie Isz, Paul White, Dorian Concept, Jamie Vex’d, G.O.D and GB.

The mini feature this month looks at the work of West Coast producer Dert, a man who’s produced for KRS One among others and made a name for himself through various beat tapes and mashups releases including the excellent ‘Sometimes I Rhyme Slow’ and his reinterpretation of the Pink Floyd classic ‘Dark Side of The Moon’. For the feature we’ve hand picked 5 beats/tracks from previous releases as well as from his forthcoming CMYK EP, which is out now. Peep the playlist for full details of where to cop everything, and also look for Dert on iTunes where you can buy a few of his albums (can’t seem to find a way to link to the page directly, but it’ll come up if you search for Dert in the iTunes store).

So that’s it for this month, as usual grab the show directly below or subscribe via iTunes or your podcatcher of choice so you never miss a show (and save yourself a few clicks along the way). Subscription details can be found on the right hand side!

And stay tuned for some more guest mixes in May as well as the usual dose of fresh new music. Oh yeah and if you haven’t already be sure to check the Trick and Tom show’s weekly goodness and keep an eye on Turntable Radio for some special video and audio podcasts in coming weeks.

<itunes:summary>While it's been a bit of a quiet month here at Rhythm Inc headquarters (life has a habit of getting in the way like that), the music has kept coming in thick and fast. This month's show is therefore another slightly extended edition with 70 minutes of fresh new music and exclusives. From the live, funky sounds of El Michels Affair and The Heliocentrics to the dubbed out riddims of Dubterror, T-Woc and Ras G via 21st century gfunk from Joker, Funky stylings from Kode 9 and boom bap headnodders and the new school hip hop flavours of Willie Isz, Paul White, Dorian Concept, Jamie Vex'd, G.O.D and GB.

The mini feature this month looks at the work of West Coast producer Dert, a man who's produced for KRS One among others and made a name for himself through various beat tapes and mashups releases including the excellent 'Sometimes I Rhyme Slow' and his reinterpretation of the Pink Floyd classic 'Dark Side of The Moon'. For the feature we've hand picked 5 beats/tracks from previous releases as well as from his forthcoming CMYK EP, which is out now. Peep the playlist for full details of where to cop everything, and also look for Dert on iTunes where you can buy a few of his albums (can't seem to find a way to link to the page directly, but it'll come up if you search for Dert in the iTunes store).

So that's it for this month, as usual grab the show directly below or subscribe via iTunes or your podcatcher of choice so you never miss a show (and save yourself a few clicks along the way). Subscription details can be found on the right hand side!

And stay tuned for some more guest mixes in May as well as the usual dose of fresh new music. Oh yeah and if you haven't already be sure to check the Trick and Tom show's weekly goodness and keep an eye on Turntable Radio for some special video and audio podcasts in coming weeks.

Enjoy!

We’ve been quieter than usual this month, but that hasn’t stopped music coming in by the bucket load into our inbox. 2009 already started on a high (see last month’s podcast for more on that) and it’s not showing any signs of stopping with labels and artists gearing up for the first quarter of the year with a lot of interesting projects and releases.

As with January, this month’s show comes with just 2 days left in the month but we reckon the wait’s been worth it. We’ve got lots of new stuff and a few bonus, exclusive treats too. We have new material from Robert Logan, Equinox Records, Bullion, 1000 Names, Mr Scruff, Yppah, Two Fingers, Computer Jay, Uncle Lew, Mr Beatnick and more. And we’ve also got a mini feature on the Warp label, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year with a string of releases including a new Prefuse 73 album and quite a few more which are yet to be officially announced.

So strap up and get comfy for 70 minutes of audio goodness. And stay tuned as March will see the return of fellow presenter Dday One and a few guest mixes including one from Parisian producer Onra and more to be announced soon.

Enjoy!

A deep space transmission reached us at Rhythm Incursions this week, coming from somewhere familiar and signed by none other than 2tall, universal astronaut, extended Rhythm Inc family member and producer at large. The sounds of the transmission are warm and comforting, much needed in these cold and snowy times. Once we decoded the transmission, the result was an hour of the latest sounds from across the planet beamed straight into your speakers.

So we suggest you turn it up to 11 and strap up for a race across the universe carried by basslines and some of the finest beats, new and old.

Also look out for 2tall‘s forthcoming release under his Om Unit moniker, which should be incoming on Terrorhythm records in the coming months. It’s been getting support from Benji B on BBC 1xtra and Alexander Nut on Rinse FM and having heard it we can tell you it’s well worth the wait.

This week’s podcast comes to you from another member of the Rhythm Incursions extended family. 2tall should need no introduction to regular listeners, but just in case I’ll leave it to him to do the introductions: “long time TTR/RI musical contributor, ex-DMC battler/turntablist, performer/showboater/nervous white guy with the correct arm movements and limited knowledge of music”. When you put it like that, what else is there to say?

Seriously though, those of you new to the show should check out the exclusive track from 2tall’s latest album, ‘The Softer Diagram’, which we featured a couple of weeks back. The album is out now, in physical and digital stores.

And don’t forget his previous album, ‘Beautiful Mindz’, an excellent collaboration with Stones Throw artists Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow, which is still available. Head over to his myspace or the newly renovated 2tall website where you can cop it all easily.

As we warned a couple of weeks back, 2tall’s put together an exclusive mix for Rhythm Incursions, looking at the recent wave of new beatmakers that are showing a return, or should that be a rebirth, of the beat. It’s a worldwide ting and the mix showcases it well with plenty of fresh and unreleased beats from the likes of Flying Lotus, Bullion, Uncle Lew, Jay Scarlett, Waajeed, Samiyam, Ras G, Dert, 00genesis and many more.

2tall thanks all those who contributed to the mix and says “look out for the forthcoming ‘New Worlds’ compilation on the Circulations label for more of the same flavour” (also peep this mix I put out a few months back on the same tip).

Watch out for more coming from the man in coming months, including releases on Dented Records (home to the Foreign Beggars) and Terrorhythm (and I for one am hyped to hear this one). Full tracklist and download link after the jump.

Download the mix right here. Strap on the headphones and turn up the volume, it’s about to get bumpy.
