<itunes:summary>Born in 2005 from the ashes of Turntable Radio and helmed by Mr Trick and Waxfactor, Rhythm Incursions started life as a radio show airing music that 'picked up where hip hop stopped'. Since then it has evolved to continue its mission and today - in a world where hip hop has evolved to embrace its mutations that were the exceptions rather than the norm only a few years ago - it provides discerning music for discerning ears with monthly shows and guest mixes from hand picked worldwide DJs, producers and labels. The Rhythm Incursions presenting team now includes Primus Luta and DDay One from the USA, Raid System from Tokyo and Laurent Fintoni from London as well as two exclusive guest mix series curated by Friends of Friends and Raid System. We love the music we play and we think you will too.</itunes:summary>

This guest mix by Mr Beatnick has rather been a long time coming, in fact I think nearly a year (without ribbing him more than I already have about it) when he helped arrange a meet with Take and Architeq in June 2009, which led to this rather lengthy but informative three way interview.

Anyways we originally agreed that he’d do a guest mix for the show and then life being what it is it didn’t happen until now. However good things do come to those who wait and somehow in between celebrating his birthday and releasing a free compilation of his music produced over the last 10 years (see below for more on that) he handed in his guest mix. And boy are you all in for a treat.

I think I first met Nick sometime last year after I just came back from Japan. He was one of the people who introduced me to the pleasures of CDR at Plastic People and who helped linked me with a whole bunch of people, like the aforementioned Take and Architeq but also Alex Chase and a few others. It’s fair to say he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve met on the London ‘scene’ but also one of the most clued up when it comes to not just music (man knows his record history) but also people and scenes. We’ve had lengthy discussions about the whole beat thing over the last year and I always enjoy hearing his take on various things through Twitter and his on and off contributions to FACT magazine.

As a producer he’s maybe not been the most pro-active in a sense, but the few releases he’s had have all been of a high quality and he’s definitely a producer who knows his shit and who you should keep an ear and an eye on, if only because when he does do something it’s almost always worth paying attention. Which leads us nicely to the aforementioned compilation he’s just put out online for free to celebrate his birthday and which features 30 tracks from the last ten years, including releases such as ‘Walk’ and ‘Falling Apples’ but also plenty of unreleased beats and remixes. You can get your fill right here in zip format (sendspace link).

As for the mix, well as it turns out he seems to have taken some degree of inspiration from our chats about beats and the evolution of hip hop production over the last decade, as well as from the mix I put out last year alongside Om Unit and Clockwork, A Boom Bap Continuum. As he puts it himself:

It’s my response in a way to the “boom bap continuum” theory laid out by Kper, 2 Tall/Om Unit and Clockwork. Essentially a bunch of boom bap beats in a classic mid nineties style, next to ideas that stood out for me at the time… and then a left turn in the end to some of the more recent twists on the idea.

Which you could also summarise as an hour of crispy headnod audio delicacies which are sure to leave regular listeners pleased as it takes in many of our own favourites from the last decade or so. As always tracklist, download link and stream are all below.

Much love and thanks to Nick for his contribution, and let me say it right now you’re welcome back anytime you want mate

So sit back and enjoy an hour of quality music to put you in the mood for the weekend, or whenever you get round to downloading it.

As hinted on our twitter last week, we’re very happy to bring you a world premiere this fine Monday morning in the shape of a celebratory mix from the Project Mooncircle label. What’s the celebration? The label’s 50th release, a worthy landmark of achievement for a small, indie label that has always stuck to its guns and not compromised its aims and music over its 7 years of existence. And considering the way the music industry has been going in the last decade, said landmark is even more worthy of celebration.

So with all this mind, Gordon and the whole crew have put together a retrospective mix celebrating the label’s 50 releases and featuring music from 30 artists who have each graced the label at one point or another in time, from MC/producers such as MF Doom, John Robinson and Lewis Parker to forward thinking producers such as 40 Winks, Jahbitat, Robot Koch, Lambent and Mr. Cooper. Also included in the mix are previews of new releases from Obba Suppa and Japanese beat maker Kan Sano.

The whole thing is lovely mixed and put together by the PMC crew and comes with special made artwork which the crew put together on a wall in Berlin at night last week. So without further ado I’ll leave you with some words from the PMC crew and a link to d/l or stream the mix. As Gordon pointed out when we were talking last week, Rhythm Inc was the first show on European airwaves to air PMC’s music 6 years ago when Trick and Waxfactor started on Resonance FM and I remembered discovering them and the Beta Bodega coalition thanks to the show, so it’s a real pleasure and honour to be there again 7 years on to celebrate the label’s achievements.

Massive thanks to Gordon and the PMC family for the love on this mix. Enjoy!

Rhythm Incursions, HHV.DE & Project: Mooncircle present: PMC050 ANNIVERSARY MIX

Since beginning in 2002 in a small cellar in Bad Muskau, close to the Polish border, until the present, based in Berlin. We now sell Project: Mooncircle vinyl and cds in stores across the world: Berlin, London, Tokyo, New York, LA, San Francisco, Melbourne. We bring music with a message and with quality and content to our fans. The music industry and the media form the taste of too many listeners of the 21st century. This should not be the way; No ear should be feed with monotonous, stupid music. We are proud of our 50 releases of uncompromised, honest music. Selfish, lazy and avaricious dreamers have been ignored successfully and we are looking forward to the next 50 releases, to growing the label, to growing our artists and to starting our sub label Project Squared.

We are proud to present to you a mix of the best from 50 PMC catalogue numbers. 30 songs by nearly 30 artists together in an amazing 50 minute set. We invite you into a journey trough the past 7 years of Project: Mooncircle’s Hip Hop and Electronica based sound. Sit back and enjoy.

The mix included acts such as John Robinson, Mr Cooper, Lambent, Robot Koch, Lewis Parker, Evil Ed, Obba Supa, Jahbitat, CYNE, Scienz of Life, 40 Winks, Dday One, Nongenetic of Shadowhuntaz, Strand, Glen Porter, Mathematik, Aether, Inner Science, Epstein, Manuvers, Kan Sano and more.

Much love to all our listeners, distributors, supporters and artists for every second of your art and attention.

<itunes:summary>As hinted on our twitter last week, we're very happy to bring you a world premiere this fine Monday morning in the shape of a celebratory mix from the Project Mooncircle label. What's the celebration? The label's 50th release, a worthy landmark of achievement for a small, indie label that has always stuck to its guns and not compromised its aims and music over its 7 years of existence. And considering the way the music industry has been going in the last decade, said landmark is even more worthy of celebration.

So with all this mind, Gordon and the whole crew have put together a retrospective mix celebrating the label's 50 releases and featuring music from 30 artists who have each graced the label at one point or another in time, from MC/producers such as MF Doom, John Robinson and Lewis Parker to forward thinking producers such as 40 Winks, Jahbitat, Robot Koch, Lambent and Mr. Cooper. Also included in the mix are previews of new releases from Obba Suppa and Japanese beat maker Kan Sano.

The whole thing is lovely mixed and put together by the PMC crew and comes with special made artwork which the crew put together on a wall in Berlin at night last week. So without further ado I'll leave you with some words from the PMC crew and a link to d/l or stream the mix. As Gordon pointed out when we were talking last week, Rhythm Inc was the first show on European airwaves to air PMC's music 6 years ago when Trick and Waxfactor started on Resonance FM and I remembered discovering them and the Beta Bodega coalition thanks to the show, so it's a real pleasure and honour to be there again 7 years on to celebrate the label's achievements.

Thanks to Gordon Gieseking, Paul Cooper, Thomas Ulrich, John Robinson, Xndl, Thimo Hörster, Tomohiro Yang, Susann S., Sarah R., S. Marie A., Andy K. & La Mano Fria for their contributions over the last 7 years. This mix is for you.
