We return with our last regular show of the month, as always bringing you 2 hours of musical freshness and this month we waste no time with two mini features and a heap of forthcoming releases and exclusives.
Up this month we have new and forthcoming music from Letherette, Terror Danjah, Svpreme Fiend, Prof Nalepa, Natural Self, 8bitch, Ol, Katzuma, Pale Sketcher, Christopher Willits, Guido, Hudson Mohawke, Exile, Shigeto, DELS, Wrongtom and Roots Manuva, Space Dimension Controller, Lobisomem, Ikonika, Lone, Take, Tokimonsta and more as well as a sneak preview of the new Mexicans With Guns release and a few Planet Mu and Ghostly releases. Alongside all this we’ve got some favourites from Blundetto, Mr Beatnick and O.N.O as well as two mini features.
The first mini feature looks at the recent output of the Soularp label, including releases by producer Erik L and Stray. I was put onto them by Jay Scarlett and I must admit I’ve really been impressed by the overall quality and variety on display. From beats to club bangers via 80s throwbacks, Soularp have been putting out some good stuff and this mini feature helps to shine a little light on that.
Following this our second mini feature looks at the recent Froots remixes release by In Vitro Records, which saw them give the tracks from Jean Jacques Perrey and Cosmic Pocket’s Froots album to an impressive selection of new school hip hop, electronic and skwee producers to flip. The result is a double CD which is just as demented as the original but obviously has a bit more mass appeal. We’ve picked out three remixes from Kelpe, Himuro Yoshiteru and Eero Johannes as a little taster but really you need to check the whole thing as it’s well worth your time.
As always you can direct download and stream below as well as check the full playlist. Subscribers will already have the show waiting in their RSS or iTunes feeds.
That’s it for this month, enjoy the music wherever you may be and stay tuned for the long overdue site revamp next month as well as the usual shows from RIPL, RIRS and myself alongside some tasty guest mixes from DJ Pain and Vangel among others.

Rhythm Incursions / Primus Luta aka RIPL – May ’10

I’m very happy to introduce our first (of two) brand new regular presenters to the Rhythm Incursions airwaves. Primus Luta from AvantUrb joins us for a new monthly show direct from the East coast of the United states. Alongside DDay One’s semi-regular show from L.A we’ve now got two presenters repping both sides of the country.
Regular listeners will remember the name as he’s guested on the show quite a few times in the last year, first with the retrospective Beat Construction mix in April, and then with 3 parts of his four-part The Vanguard series earlier this year. An avid music fan and musician, he holds the same interest in new music as we do and brings to the show the same open minded and embracing attitude that we try and put into ours. After chatting by email, following his work and putting his mixes on the show for the best part of a year, it felt like a natural progression to bring him on board.
Here’s some words from the man himself regarding the new show, which has been dubbed RIPL:
For the first episode of RIPL the aim was to give a broad idea of the type of stuff you can expect to hear over the coming months. This is an incredible period in music, with folk from the four corners really representing at the leading edge, where sounds and styles are being born every minute. We like to umbrella these into singular genres for simplicity, but the truth of the matter is that genre’s themselves have become modular.
Each genre, each sub-genre, is like a pebble dropping into the ocean of sound sending out ripples in concentric circles. They bounce off of each other, absorb one another’s energy, intersect, and create new ripples, new sounds, new genres, new sub genres. This show is all about the ripples. Okay I just made that up. It sounded good though, nowhere near as good as the music itself. Bring on the RIPL!!
Primus Luta will be holding it down on the second week of each month starting next month with his RIPL show. He will be followed by our other new presenters XLII and Broken Haze from Raid System in Tokyo – who regular listeners will remember we featured recently in a 3-part special – who will hold down the third week of the month starting in June (their debut show goes out next week). And then on the last week of the month our regular show will continue to go out. So that’ll be 3 times the amount of regular music coming your way each month, each from a different continent but with the same aim of bringing discerning music to discerning ears.
Please leave your feedback on this show so we can continue to build and take in your input as well.
Enjoy!

Rhythm Incursions: November 08 part deux

I kinda messed things up and this podcast originally went out with the wrong file (the one from the October show). This has now been fixed and I have been fired. This will be my last post before I possible commit ritual suicide in order to atone for the gravity of my sins. Moral of the story is either never trust a Frenchman or don’t work when you’re tired. I go for the first one personally. Originaly text, links and tracklist below.
Seeing as how things are still messed up worldwide, we’ve got another round of fresh new music to help fight the gloom and doom. Think of it like an audio version of Obama’s win, or something to that effect… yes we can (play dope music for you). The end of the year also means an abundance of new music, with our collective Rhythm Incursions music box packed to the rafters as labels and artists push their latest for the end of year/post new year rush. Putting this month’s show together was therefore more difficult than usual, and there is still quite a bit of music I couldn’t showcase, so look out for more goodness next month as we not only wrap up the year but also continue showcasing all the good stuff that’s out, or on its way. Still, I managed to fit in quite a lot in the space of an hour, from the likes of Kanye, Common, Just Blaze, Kano and Evil Nine to Rhythm Incursions favourites Nosaj Thing, Exile and Maga Bo as well as Diplo, Madlib, Fulgeance, Blank Blue, DJ Design and more. Do we have your full attention yet? Good.
