<itunes:summary>Born in 2005 from the ashes of Turntable Radio and helmed by Mr Trick and Waxfactor, Rhythm Incursions started life as a radio show airing music that 'picked up where hip hop stopped'. Since then it has evolved to continue its mission and today - in a world where hip hop has evolved to embrace its mutations that were the exceptions rather than the norm only a few years ago - it provides discerning music for discerning ears with monthly shows and guest mixes from hand picked worldwide DJs, producers and labels. The Rhythm Incursions presenting team now includes Primus Luta and DDay One from the USA, Raid System from Tokyo and Laurent Fintoni from London as well as two exclusive guest mix series curated by Friends of Friends and Raid System. We love the music we play and we think you will too.</itunes:summary>

Somehow I never quite thought I’d ever write something like this. But hey it’s happening, I’ll be doing a little tour of Japan and Tokyo in March and April representing Rhythm Incursions and taking in 5 dates across 4 weeks, with 4 shows in the capital and one outside.

Those that have been following us for a while, and over at our sister site Turntable Radio, will know that I lived in Japan in 2007/8 and that we’ve always had strong links to the country’s underground scenes – manifested through some pretty killer guest mixes over the last few years by the likes of Ichiro_, Himuro Yoshiteru, Olive Oil, Ken One and Yosi Horikawa among others as well as our regular Raid System podcast presented by XLII and Broken Haze from Tokyo.

Dates for the shows are below – if you are in area or know anyone that is please do come down and say hello or spread the word. Japan is now our third biggest listener base so it’d be great to meet some of the listeners whilst having a good time. I’ll be playing alongside some very dope people too including close friends of ours like Raid System, Ken One, Goth Trad, and ENA as well as Japanese beat maker RLP and Exodus from Leeds.

All dates are DJ sets and you can expect the same wide ranging approach as the shows but with the dancefloor in mind of course. I should also be doing a special beats set for the In Dope Like This party – a short promo mix for which you can stream/download above – and potentially a 2006/7 dubstep set at BTC as I’ll be recovering all my dubstep vinyl which has been left in storage in Tokyo for the last 3 years.

Also the March 25 gig with Raid System will be broadcast live on their Ustream channel so no excuse not to join us if you’re online at the same time – that should be a very special party.

Rhythm Incursions Japan tour 2011:

12/03 | Gnarbeats @ Q-tips | Hakuba, Nagano-ken, Japan | Facebook event page
18/03 | In Dope Like This vol.3 @ Harajuku U | Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan | Facebook page
25/03 | Raid System Radio vol. 15 @ Heavy Sick Zero | Nakano, Tokyo, Japan | Website + streamed live
07/04 | Back To Chill @ Club Asia | Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan | Website
09/04 | Mo’ Fun vol.12 @ Heavy Sick Zero | Nakano, Tokyo, Japan | Facebook page

A massive thank you to all the people who made this possible (in no special order): Goth Trad, XLII, Broken Haze, Asa, Keijiro and Dopement. And a special thank you to Serato and Rane for their support.

As announced a few months ago we’ve been planning to do some ‘regular’ Ustream shows in 2011 in addition to the podcasts – not only because they’re fun to do but also because they’re live and therefore a bit more entertaining for the listener. Oh and it’s an excuse to play more music, new and old for your ears.

Alongside the official Rhythm Incursions Ustream channel I set up in November (for which I’m hoping to start a regular monthly show soon) I also set up another channel, called Maisonette Electronique, alongside Om Unit with whom I am now sharing a flat. The Maisonette channel is essentially there for us to play music we love, old and new, have fun and share it with people in the process.

We did the first session of 2011 last night, and it’s archived on Ustream and can be streamed above or by going to the page here. It was an absolute blast lasting 3 hours and going through a whole lot of music from new and forthcoming bits from Mark Pritchard, Quest, Kromestar, Tokimonsta, dBridge and more as well as some jungle classics, some dubstep, beats, hip hop and whatever else we felt like. The video was a bit laggy but the audio stream is fine.

We’ll keep you updated when the next Maisonette Electronique happens as well as when the Rhythm Incursions Ustream monthly show will start. For now you can check the Rhythm Inc Ustream show page for a few archived shows I did in November and December. And don’t forget to check the Raid System monthly Ustream show as well, live from Tokyo. Details of this and all the Ustream shows are here.

O hai there. No you’re not dreaming, Rhythm Incursions has had a lick of paint. Well actually more than that. This website redesign has been a long time coming and is frankly overdue. We hope you like it though, we did it to try and make it easier than ever to browse all available shows and just generally interact with us in more ways, whether on the site, via social networks or more.

The main changes are as follows:
- New homepage featuring shows in visual format, simply hover on the images to see info and click through!
- Visual browsing system for all archives. Let the images guide you!
- Dedicated archive pages for all regular shows and guest mixes. Simply use the top navigation to check the shows/presenters you want. Look at Dday One’s new page for example
- Tag archive page that allows you to browse all shows an artist is featured in. Like someone in particular? Check out all the content we have available on them
- New easier to use comment system, you can log in using your twitter or Facebook IDs
- Tweet and Facebook share buttons. Spread the love at the click of a button
- Ustream page – more on that very soon, but for now check the Raid System Ustream shows archived, and look out for new Rhythm Inc Ustreams soooon
- Easier to use buttons to subscribe to shows via newsletter, iTunes or RSS. Simply subscribe and get shows to your inbox when they go live. Easy peasy!

And more. So get comfortable and have a browse, listen to some shows, download, share and don’t forget to let us know what you think. There’s still a few minor things we’re ironing out but it should all be done by tomorrow.

Big thanks to Delarge for the new header/visual ID and all the presenters and guests.

Enjoy!

Laurent

Now this one somehow would have slipped right by us, if it wasn’t for DJ Pain sending me an email on an unrelated note and mentioning that he’d sent a new mix to Trick a while back and hadn’t heard from him yet. Considering Pain is by far one of our favourite DJs, and a de-facto Rhythm-Incursions extended family member following his previous contributions to the show, it soon became clear that somehow, someway the email had fallen foul of a spam filter or something else. Lucky then that we picked up on it because this one is another unmissable mix.

The Odd Side of The Sun is DJ Pain’s tribute of sorts to the producer Odd Nosdam. I’ll let the man explain in a bit more detail:

The mix features all beats by producer Odd Nosdam throughout his career with the Mush and Anticon labels minus the Clouddead output that I didn’t want to focus on for the mix. I went through all of his beats that I had and wanted to do something that stayed close to his original work, yet at the same time throw my own twist on it. There’s almost 40 tracks mixed together in about 51 minutes. The mix is a little A.D.D on steroids, but I think it’s a good point for people to learn and hopefully enjoy Odd Nosdam’s tracks as much as I do… Elektro4 did the artwork.

The result is an instantly listenable and addictive instrumental ride into the work of Odd Nosdam, a great way to enjoy his music if you’re a fan and a perfect introduction if you’re not familiar with his output (which was the case for me as I only knew a few of his beats). The whole thing is wrapped up in the kind of tight package that you’d expect from DJ Pain.

It’s a pleasure to have Pain grace the Rhythm Incursions airwaves once more. So sit back, strap on your headphones or ready your speakers and crank it up to 11. No tracklist on this one, but the mix is 320kpbs goodness.

For more on DJ Pain make sure you check his myspace. And for Odd Nosdam look here.

As some of you might have noticed we’ve added some handy icons to the right hand side of the site recently for the various sites that Rhythm Incursions rolls on <sarcasm> in the ever exciting world of web 2.0 </sarcasm>. We’ve also resurrected/reanimated/started using again the R-I myspace page, which was left to wither away in the ether of the internet to say the least. It’s back and popping though, as is a bunch of other sites from Facebook to Twitter.

Below is a handy rundown of all the sites you can find us on, as well as Turntable Radio, our sister radio show. Or just use the icons on the right hand side like I said.

One night before Christmas I was out at a Resonance FM Christmas drinks bash, when I got chatting to Jonny Trunk, owner of Trunk Records and presenter of the truly magnificent OST show on Resonance. Possibly affected by a few beers, we decided it would be an excellent idea to get Jonny onto the show with a selection of film music, library music and other related areas.

So, click below to listen to a very different Rhythm Incursions show, featuring some of the finest and most unlikely beats, grooves and madness from Jonny’s own incredible collection…
